Olympics 2016 Zika(Virus) Outbreak

The 2016 Olympics has been set to be in Rio, Brazil. Kenya is trying to pull their country out of the Olympics. The reason is because of the outbreak of the Zika virus which has been spreading across the nation. Zika virus is a mosquito borne virus from the same family as yellow fever dengue, chikungunya, west nile, and Japanese encephalitis virus. The virus had an outbreak in Brazil and traveling into many countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. Because of this virus it brings up questions about the Olympics. Do countries want to take the chance of letting their people going to Brazil for the Olympics? This could be a health risk for athletes to perform at their best if they are contaminated with the virus. This could be a serious problem because of the virus. It is already 2016 and just a couple months before the Olympics. There is a lot of money already being spent on this event. Every country is getting prepared for the biggest event of the year. Would it be a bad idea to reschedule the Olympics for a different time?
Are countries willing to take that risk? According to ABC News “the head of the World Health Organization’s Zika response team is predicting that Brazil will host a “fantastic Olympics” and that the mosquito-borne virus will be “way down” the time the summer Games begins in Rio de Janeiro on Aug 5”.  I’m hoping this Olympics will go fine.

Inconsistent of Cleveland Cavaliers

Even if they are leading the conference there is a lot going on for the Cleveland Cavaliers. This team seems to be most inconsistent team in the NBA, Lebron James is the leader of this team. It seems like he is in control of everything that goes on in the Cavaliers arena. Since Lebron came back to Cleveland there has been a lot changes for this team. The team has lately fired the old coach David Blatt. With Kyrie Irving just coming back from his knee injury it has been a struggle for him to find his rhythm back. Kyire plays a big role in this team with the ability to score the ball and he is able to pass the ball for an assist. They are just coming off a loss to the Toronto Raptors, losing the game by 2 points. Pretty close! With Kyle Lowry from Toronto having a career night at Cleveland with 43 points after making a late shot to seal the game. This has been the most points that Cleveland have gave up to a single player this season. The Cavaliers are with 41 wins and 16 lost. More likely they will make it to the playoffs then making it to finals again. But will they capture a tittle there? That is going to be a difficult task to cover, because there are two teams above them with more wins and less lost the golden State warriors are 51-5 and San Antonio Spurs are 49-9. They could pull it off if they make the right trade of players.

Damion Lillard Career Night

It Daim time to check your watch, the Golden State Warriors have been breaking records with their star player Stephen Curry. When he shoots you wonder, does he ever miss? They are having the best record in basketball this season, even better than the Chicago Bulls had with Michael Jordon. The Warriors have 48 wins and 4 loses going into the game in the Portland Blazer’s house. This time it wasn't all about the Warriors. The Blazers took a quick start by attacking the Warriors early. The Warrior were able to keep up with them for the first half. Stephen Curry finished the half with 20 points and the Blazer’s best player had 17 points finishing the half. In the third quarter it was all about the Blazers. Remember when I say its Daim time, yup! That's Damion Lillard, the Blazer’s best player. He was he was playing out of his mind. He was scoring from all angles, and he was guarded by Curry, which Curry could not contain him. Damion went for a career high of 51 points. The warriors was not able to get back into the game this time, the Blazers outscored the Warriors by 32 points. This was the most the Warriors has ever lost by this season.

Barcelona Success

Barcelona, the unstoppable team. Barcelona is a club Football/Soccer team in Spain named after the city. This team is considered the gods of football. They have been this good from over the years, and they always find a way to recruit the best players around the world. They have won title on top on tittle. It is not easy to get into one of these games because there is so many people who are trying to get in. How long does it takes to get in these games? The wait could be up to 3 years or more. This is like a process where they would have to become a member of the club before a person can think about going to the games. At this point in 2016 they are really unstoppable, with Suarz, Lionel Messi and Neymar. They are looking to get another tittle with a 32 game win streak. They are not easy players to get around. Those players are also the top players in the world. Messi is the main key for this team everyone plays around, he is fast, very skill, unselfish, and knows the games very well and has the capability to pass the ball and score very well. Even though they have the best up front players don't think that Barcelona defense is weak, their defense is made of metal nothing passes them. Will this Barcelona team win another title? Let’s see.

Runners to Your Mark--Set--Champions?

Track and field is arguably one of the world's most under looked sports. Sometimes people joke, questioning why anyone would want to run around in circles. But when you think about it, all sports require players to run around one area because that is the bounds for the game. The purpose for bringing all of this up is that around 2011, both of the Mason men’s and women’s teams were both teams that became increasingly successful. The men’s team consistently performed at the top of the conference, winning three years in a row. While the women, seemed to keep just missing first place. However, with the round of athletes that came in around 2011, they seemed to continue working hard on the track. One year later, Mason moved into a more challenging conference so the women knew they had to work even harder during practice. When conference championships came around, though, the women made winning look easy. They became A-10 conference champions their first year in the new conference. The success for mason track and field is going great although changes still affect the team. With the 2015 year the Mason athlete had hire a new coach because the old coach left to coach at Tennessee University. Even though mason has a new coach it seems like they will continue to have successful years in the future.

A Jaw Dropping Victory

Mason vs. Davidson
Mason homecoming seems to have had a great turnout, the stadium was packed. I do not remember ever seeing so many fans in the audience. Mason’s Men’s basketball team was leading the entire first half until Davidson rallied back for a five point lead. At this point, everyone looked nervous because of thought that Mason was going to lose their homecoming game. But soon enough, good defense and two great offensive plays left Mason with a chance to gain back the lead. 46 seconds left. Mason was down by one. 2 seconds left. This had everyone on there tip toes as you could see fans coming to their feet for the last second to go. Davidson took the ball down the court to try and steal the game. The opponent took the shot which looked very much like it was going in. Luckily, the ball hit the back of the rim. Now, Mason had the rebound. The patriots rushed the ball up the floor to try and score because they were down by one. Mason took the shot but missed and tried to tip in, but the ball did not go in again. The clock was running down, but Mason had the chance to get an offensive rebound which they did. The ball was put up again and Mason scored! Everyone was celebrating but not realizing that there were still milliseconds on the clock, providing a chance for the other team to score. Fortunately, Davidson tried to take a half court shot for the win but missed. The Mason homecoming game was nerve-wracking and breath taking but without a doubt, it was an exciting game for the homecoming fans.

No Love for Usian Bolt

The fastest man in the world, Usain bolt, stated he is facing classism and racism. To Jamaica natives, the parish Kingston is basically divided into two areas
uptown and downtown. Downtown is where mostly middle class and lower class live. Uptown is called “the money place” because that where the upper, “healthy” class resides. Usain Bolt moved to the uptown area so he can he can blend in with the healthy lifestyle. When Usain bolt moved into area he realized he wasn’t comfortable, because it seemed that his own people were not accepting him into neighborhood. Before he moved into the uptown complex, he had problems with his other neighbors; he stated that most of them had lighter skin than him. So in that, there was a lot of jealousy. But he soon found out that it wasn’t just light skinned people he would have issues with. People such as, lawyers and doctors found jealousy haunting them as well. Most of these people think that because they had to work very hard in school and most of the time obtain multiple degrees, it was not fair that Usain Bolt was born with a raw talent that made him the fastest man on the planet.  It’s funny and a bit ironic how Bolt moved to the upper-class area in hopes of having an easier and less attention grabbing lifestyle but they are the ones that lack respect for him. It’s the people who are living paycheck to paycheck in the ghetto that actually have a lot more respect to fastest man in the world.

Negative leads  to Motivation

In Australia, The Melbrone Club Cricket Team had a winning game in the Big Bash League. One significant player, Chris Gayle who plays the batsman position, especially played a great game. As a result, he was invited to an interview after the game but it did not turn out so well for him. Chris Gayle, got into trouble with and female reporter in Australia. He made, what is being called a sexist comment, towards. Chris said to the female reporter “Your eyes are beautiful, hopefully we can win this game and then we can have a drink after as well. Don’t blush, baby”. After his remark, viewers could clearly see that she did not feel comfortable. She even expressed, in a later interview, that she felt that what he said was inappropriate. The cricket team didn’t know that he would be in trouble just for saying a few words to the reporter. He was fined up to 10,000 dollars for the sexist words. He said that he didn’t mean anything to offend her. He felt bad about what he said to her, then tried to apologize after the incident. After all of the controversy between the female reporter and Chris Gayle, he just wanted things to get back to normal. He was able to quickly return his focus to meeting his goals for the season. Chris Gayle hit a 12-ball half-century to set the record for the fastest fifty in T20 cricket.
